Negatives: First of all, we drove from North Carolina to Delaware and were unable to make it for our first night stay due to hurricane Helene. We were told we would be charged for both nights upon arrival. I had contacted Booking.com and the propertry to let them know that since we were unable to leave our area due to closed roads from flooding, we would not make it to Delaware until the next day. We were still charged for the first night. Booking.com gave me a new rate but Red Roof Inn would not uphold it. This should have been considered an act of God and I should not have been charged for the first night. Now for the actual hotel experience... Arriving to the hotel came as a bit of a shock. The exterior of the building was deteriorating and unkempt. The lobby of the hotel smelled like strong chemicals that burned my nose as did the hallways of the interior of the building. The "receptionist" was not rude but definitely not friendly. I tried explaining why we did not arrive the day before and she did not care. The room itself had large water stains on the ceiling and what appeared to be black mold. The floor was sticky and there was a sticky substance on the surfaces of the nightstands. The bathroom was gross and the only redeeming quality was the toilet paper was folded neatly. I do not blame the cleaning crew for any of this as they do not have much to work with in this building. Trust me, if there had been a different hotel with availability, I would have left and gone there but since it was UD's parents weekend, we were stuck. I brought blankets from my car to sleep on because the bed looked dirty and the matress was as thin as a pancake. As to how I felt for my safety? Not good at all. Overall, this was the worst hotel stay I have ever had and will not be returning. Sleeping in my car would have been a better option. I would give zero stars if I could.
