Positives: The room was fairly spacious and had a seating area. It also had a small fridge, microwave, and coffee maker.
Negatives: The check in experience wasn't pleasant. I was informed at check in that they have a damage deposit policy of $200 that was due. My reservation confirmation had no mention of this anywhere nor was it mentioned anywhere during the booking process online. Then, when tapping my card to begrudgingly pay the unexpected $200 damage deposit, I noticed I was also being charged for the room after having paid for it in advance. The front desk staff insisted that the room was only reserved with a credit card despite my insistence on showing them my receipt for payment. A manager or someone in charge called them from the office to see what the issue was. After nearly 15 minutes of approaching the desk for check in, I was finally given my room keys and only then refunded the extra room charge. No apologies were offered, and no manager even came to apologize and handle the issue personally. If a damage deposit is going to be due at check in, that needs to be disclosed during the booking process online and also noted in the confirmation no matter the amount. I use this site frequently to book hotels, and will note which one(s) have it so I'm not surprised when I get to the property. It's very sneaky of this hotel to practice such a bad business model. Also, the room had a lingering smell of marijuana, mainly from the bathroom. We had to keep the door closed to avoid smelling it. One elevator also had it the smell. Gross.

Negatives: Terrible noises coming from the room next door. Woke us up over and over. The loud voices, and sexual noises went on all night every 15 minutes or so. We called the front desk at 12am or so. The people were confronted but never expelled. We were given no options.

Positives: The hotel is in a great location, just a 10-minute walk to Philadelphia City Hall and Market. It also offers breakfast and a gym. However, the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night, and everyone had to use the emergency stairs to evacuate. We waited in the lobby for 20 minutes, saw the fire truck arrive and leave, but no staff explained what had happened.

Positives: The location was very good, close to city hall, shopping, reading market etc.... Breakfast was basic but good. Good gym facilities.That's about it for good points unfortunately.
Negatives: This is a poorly managed hotel. We witnessed multiple guests arguing with staff over a variety of issues. I would not stay here again. We had spent a few nights in a Hampton hotel in Media (around 30 min drive from Philadelphia city) previous to staying here and it's hard to believe the two hotels are owned by the same company. From excellence in Media to the opposite here. We experienced issues from the second we arrived, starting with checking in not possible until after 5pm, rooms not ready ( in fairness they did have a power cut that day so were running behind and we completely understood this) but when they started checking people in there was no communication to people that were sitting waiting and no organisation. We had to pay a $250 room deposit, this was not mentioned anywhere when booking. Our previous hotel charged $25 (both Hampton). Our room was small so we asked if they had availability for a larger room which we would gladly have paid extra for. We were told they did have room but they weren't clean so we'd have to stay where we were. Staff were totally uninterested in providing any help. The room had obviously been cleaned in a rush as there was very little toilet paper with wrappers and old toilet roll cores still there from previous guests. No trash can in the room or bathroom. Two towels for 4 people. No soap, shower gel in the holders. We asked for a trash cans for 3 days before receiving 2 when I had to get angry at the front desk. Our room was not cleaned for the entire stay. We had to ask for new towels (3 times). The staff were not at all interested and seem to be conditioned to deal with issues as they arise rather than prevent them. The male toilets below the lobby had 6 soap holders all of which were empty for our entire stay so any male using the facilities could not wash their hands. Key card would not open gym door and had to ask 3 times every morning before they would send someone to open the door.

Negatives: At approximately 2:45 AM, a member of the hotel’s security staff, accompanied by a stranger who was allegedly a previous guest, unlocked and entered my room without permission or prior notice. This intrusion occurred while we were about to rest, leaving us feeling unsafe and deeply unsettled. We were later told that the stranger had returned to retrieve a lost item and that the hotel staff mistakenly opened our room instead of another room one floor below. However, this explanation does not justify the breach of privacy and security. This incident reflects a serious failure in the hotel's management and safety protocols.
