The hotel staff are friendly and were definitely the best part of our short stay. The tile floors in the bathroom are heated. The faux wood vinyl plank flooring was new and clean. The tub, sink, and toilet also appeared to be newer in contrast to the worn furniture, lighting, and bedding in the sleeping area.
Negatives:
To be fair, the hotel appears to be in the process of renovations. We might have incidentally landed a room on a wing of the hotel that hadn’t yet been touched by renovation process. The wing our room was located on was extremely run down. The elevators appeared grimy and I can compare them to being similar in appearance to those one would find in a parking garage on the ‘wrong’ side of town in an urban city. The walkway we went through on the first floor level adjacent to the lobby had a shattered glass door. Our room was reasonably clean but many other details of the room’s appearance were quite sketchy.
The outlet electrical plate covers in our room had fallen off and were left unscrewed and dangling away from the wall and outlet. The vinyl trim around the vinyl faux wood flooring had come unglued and was also dangling in sections of the floorboard. The hangers in the closet area were broken with the little tack nails sticking out and there was paint and what looked like drywall mud on a couple of them. The blackout curtain was stained with a very large reddish brown stain that looks like it had been partially cleaned. (I was truly hoping it was not an old blood stain and I quickly covered it with the outer curtain before the kids saw it but I couldn’t stop thinking about it being there myself). There were so many sticky paint layers around the metal doorknobs and door jams that the bathroom door was very difficult to shut and once shut, it stuck when attempting to open it again.
I am unfamiliar with the city but it does appear the hotel is located in a really rough and rundown section of Terre Haute. The hotel is actually next door to the juvenile justice and containment facility and it appears to even share a parking lot with the Vigo County Juvenile Center. In summary and in my opinion, there are welcoming and friendly staff operating the hotel and they appear to be attempting to renovate the dated exterior and really worn interior.
